A two-Day Text Retrieval and Extraction Course was held on Nov. 16 & 17, 1993 at UMass Amherst for CIIR member companies. Bruce Croft and Wendy Lehnert each led one of the day’s tutorials to provide attendees with overviews of the important aspects of information retrieval research and natural language processing techniques that support information extraction systems -- and how it relates to commercial applications. The tutorial was sponsored by the CIIR and ACSIOM.
